Volunteer
Do a mitzvah (good deed) by helping others—become a JFCS/East Bay volunteer and make a priceless connection with someone in your community. You can join our grassroots community of individuals who give their time and energy to help isolated seniors, new immigrants, disabled adults, or disadvantaged children. We focus on making matches that are emotionally and intellectually satisfying for both clients and volunteers.
Here are some of the volunteer roles that are available through JFCS/East Bay:
- Become a friendly visitor to a homebound senior or Holocaust survivor.
- Help a senior with errands and small household chores.
- Assist a newly arrived refugee with conversational English (Contra Costa County only).
- Be a homework tutor for refugee youth (Contra Costa County only).
- Drive someone to medical appointments or special community events.
- Deliver kosher holiday meals.
Volunteer Process
Your first step is to fill out the volunteer interest form, which is linked at the left. The form is sent to our volunteer coordinator, who will evaluate your interests with current openings and opportunities in mind. As appropriate, the volunteer coordinator will contact you and ask you to fill out a comprehensive volunteer application. Once the application is submitted and a volunteer role has been identified, you will be asked to come in for a short screening interview and to agree to a standard background check. When that process is complete, you will receive training and orientation, and then will be assigned a volunteer role. The volunteer coordinator provides detailed guidance at the beginning of every placement and is always available for feedback and questions.
