In honor of Disability Pride Month, we celebrate the remarkable individuals who embody the spirit of empowerment and inclusivity within our community. This month, we shine a spotlight on Sarah-Dawn Smith, the dedicated Transportation Manager at the Bay Area Outreach & Recreation Program (BORP). The Mission of Bay Area Outreach and Recreation Program (BORP) is to improve the health, independence and social integration of children, youth and adults with physical disabilities and visual impairments through sports, fitness, and recreation programs.
Sarah-Dawn’s journey with BORP began in 2014 when she joined as the Transportation Coordinator. With a background spanning auto transportation, tour bus operations, and specialized care for adults and seniors with disabilities, Sarah-Dawn brings a wealth of experience and a deep commitment to improving accessibility for all. Her passion for sports—from surfing to basketball—fuels her dedication to ensuring that everyone has the opportunity to participate and thrive in recreational activities.
“At BORP, one of the best parts of my job is helping others gain access to recreational activities and sports programs,” Sarah-Dawn shares. Her leadership extends beyond logistical coordination; it embodies a profound belief in the transformative power of community engagement and physical activity.
Sarah-Dawn’s efforts resonate far and wide, touching the lives of children, youth, and adults across our community. She exemplifies the values of compassion, dedication, and inclusion that lie at the heart of BORP’s mission. Through her work, barriers are dismantled, and opportunities are created, empowering individuals to achieve their fullest potential.
As we celebrate leaders like Sarah-Dawn Smith, we recognize their invaluable contributions to fostering a more inclusive and supportive community. Her commitment to breaking down barriers and enhancing access to sports and recreation sets a powerful example for us all.
