Chaverim

Adult Developmental Disability Socialization
JFCS East Bay’s Chaverim group provides unique social and educational opportunities for Jewish adults with mild to moderate developmental disabilities. Developmental disabilities are a set of conditions due to an impairment in physical, learning, language, or behavior areas.

We are unique in providing this opportunity since there are no other similar programs in the area. For many members, Chaverim meetings are the only organized Jewish activities in which they have been able to participate.

At monthly meetings, Chaverim members learn about Jewish holidays and traditions, socialize with other adults, and find a connection to the larger Jewish community. Chaverim is open to people living in Alameda and Contra Costa Counties, with gatherings taking place at JFCS East Bay’s Concord office or at community events. Activities are done both virtually and in person and include:

  • Jewish holiday celebrations
  • Watching Jewish films
  • Attending baseball games
  • Visiting art fairs
  • Bowling
  • Sharing Israeli food
  • Playing trivia
