JFCS East Bay unequivocally condemns the recent ICE raids taking place in California and across the country. These aggressive actions, carried out in neighborhoods, near places of worship, at schools and graduations, and even in courthouses, are inflicting fear and trauma on immigrant families, workers, and entire communities.
The immigration legal services community exists because justice is not equitably accessible and vulnerable immigrants and refugees deserve due process. JFCS East Bay is proud to be part of that community, and we continue to advocate in the legislature, in courtrooms, and in community spaces for those whose voices are often silenced.
We strongly oppose the deployment of ICE in our cities and the targeting of immigrants simply for going about their daily lives. Moreover, stationing immigration enforcement at courthouses is an appalling tactic that undermines public trust, puts people at risk and impedes access to due process. Because of these tactics, immigrants from asylum seekers, refugees, legal permanent residents and foreign students are increasingly swept up in these draconian enforcement operations.
We also support the right to peacefully protest these raids and other harmful federal actions. The growing number of people taking to the streets is a testament to the moment’s urgency. We applaud those who are raising their voices, standing in solidarity, and refusing to remain silent in the face of injustice.
JFCS East Bay will continue to stand with immigrant families and communities under attack. We are grateful to the legal aid workers and advocates who, even under threat, continue to fight for fairness, dignity, and human rights. We remain committed to building a just and inclusive society where every person can live without fear.
