Medical
Employees who work 20 hours per week or more are eligible for medical insurance benefits for themselves and their eligible dependents. Dependents are defined as spouse, child, or domestic partner.
JFCS East Bay offers a variety of plans. For a description of each health insurance plan including coverage details, employer contributions, and costs to the employee please refer to the Benefits Enrollment Guide for the current plan year. Employees will receive the current Benefits Enrollment Guide when they are hired or become benefits eligible as well as during open enrollment. Any costs for monthly premiums not covered by JFCS East Bay’s employer contribution will be deducted from the employee’s paycheck each pay period.
Dental
Employees who work 20 hours per week or more are eligible for dental insurance benefits. For a description of our dental insurance plan including coverage details, employer contributions, and costs to the employee please refer to the Benefits Enrolment Guide for the current plan year.

Vision
Employees who work 20 hours per week or more are eligible for vision insurance benefits. For a description of our vision insurance plan including coverage details, employer contributions, and costs to the employee please refer to the Benefits Enrolment Guide for the current plan year.

Employees who work 20 hours per week or more are eligible to participate in any of our four Flexible Spending Accounts which include health care, dependent care, transit, and parking. Flexible spending accounts are a way for employees to reimburse expenses using pre-tax dollars. An employee’s contributions to their FSA are deducted from their paychecks and deposited into their selected Flexible Spending Account(s) each pay period.

Group Life Insurance and Accidental Death and Dismemberment Insurance
Employees who work 20 hours per week or more are eligible for JFCS East Bay’s group life insurance plan. The plan provides life and accidental death and dismemberment (AD&D) insurance. Eligible employees will automatically be enrolled in basic coverage and may elect additional coverage.
If an employee elects coverage over $50,000, it is required that any coverage over this amount be reported as this is subject to applicable taxes. For a description of our Group Life Insurance and A&D plan, including coverage details, employer contributions, and costs to the employee please refer to the Benefits Enrolment Guide for the current plan year. Employees will receive the current Benefits Enrollment Guide when they are hired or become benefits eligible as well as during open enrollment. Any costs for monthly premiums not covered by JFCS East Bay’s employer contribution, will be deducted from the employee’s paycheck each pay period.

Employees who work 30 hours per week or more are eligible for long-term disability insurance from JFCS East Bay at no cost. For a description of our Long Term Disability plan please refer to the Benefits Enrolment Guide for the current plan year. Employees will receive the current Benefits Enrollment Guide when they are hired or become benefits eligible as well as during open enrollment.

Employees who work 20 hours per week or more are eligible for our Employee Assistance Program (EAP) at no cost. The EAP provides a limited number of counseling sessions, crisis intervention services, and educational seminars to support employees. For additional information about the EAP please refer to the Benefits Enrolment Guide for the current plan year. Employees will receive the current Benefits Enrollment Guide when they are hired or become benefits eligible as well as during open enrollment.

401(k) Retirement Plan
JFCS East Bay currently offers a 401(k) retirement plan to all employees who are 21 years of age or older. Employees may set-up a plan after 30 days of employment and have pre-tax and/or Roth contributions taken from their paycheck. After one year of continuous employment, contributing employees who work 1,000 hours or more in a 12-month period are eligible to receive a matching contribution from the Agency. The current matching contribution is 3% but is subject to change. Employees are also immediately 100% vested in the plan.

Paid Federal Holidays
JFCS East Bay observes the following paid holidays (10 days):
- New Year’s Day (January 1)
- Martin Luther King, ‘s Birthday (Third Monday in January)
- Presidents’ Day (Third Monday in February)
- Memorial Day (Last Monday in May)
- Juneteenth (June 19)
- Independence Day (July 4)
- Labor Day (First Monday in September)
- Thanksgiving Day (Fourth Thursday in November)
- Day after Thanksgiving
- Christmas Day (December 25)
When a holiday falls on a Saturday or Sunday, it will generally be observed on the preceding Friday or the following Monday. However, JFCS East Bay may assign an alternate day off.
Employees will receive a payroll calendar at the start of each calendar year which includes dates of observance for all holidays in that calendar year.
To be eligible for holiday pay, an employee must be regularly scheduled to work on the day in which the holiday is observed. Employees whose last date of employment precedes a holiday are not eligible for holiday pay.
Employees who work on a paid scheduled holiday will receive time for hours worked in addition to their usual holiday pay.
If a recognized holiday falls during an eligible employee’s paid absence (such as ETO), holiday pay will be provided instead using ETO.
Paid Jewish Holidays
As an organization founded by and serving the Jewish community, JFCS East Bay is closed on the following Jewish holidays (6 days) when they fall on weekdays:
- Rosh Hashanah 1st and 2nd days
- Yom Kippur
- Sukkot 1st day
- Passover 1st day
- Shavuot 1st day
The Agency will also close at 3:00 p.m. on the afternoons preceding Rosh Hashanah, Yom Kippur and Passover. All employees will receive time off during these paid Jewish holidays.
