Jonathan Safran Foer

Jonathan Safran Foer is the bestselling author of Everything Is Illuminated, a novel celebrated for its unforgettable exploration of how children make meaning from loss, love, and belonging. Through this work — and through his other acclaimed books, including Extremely Loud & Incredibly CloseHere I AmEating Animals, and We Are the Weather — Foer has become one of the most influential storytellers of his generation.

His writing blends emotional truth, moral imagination, and a deep sensitivity to the inner lives of children and families, illuminating how communities confront trauma and create pathways toward healing.

Foer’s books have been translated into more than 40 languages, adapted into award-winning films, and recognized with numerous prizes, including the Guardian First Book Prize and the National Jewish Book Award. He has also been named a Rolling Stone “Person of the Year” and one of The New Yorker’s “20 Under 40,” honors that reflect his impact on contemporary literature and culture.

At Art of Living 2026, Foer brings a distinctive voice that bridges storytelling, empathy, and our collective responsibility to nurture children and newcomers—insights that resonate deeply with JFCS East Bay’s mission and the challenges facing our community today.
