Across our community, families are facing rising costs for housing, food, and other essentials. Immigrants and refugees are confronting increasingly complex legal challenges and fear of deportation. Cuts to public services are leaving our neighbors with fewer places to turn, while rising hate and uncertainty are adding to the emotional toll on families in our community.
Financial hardship is also affecting more people in the Jewish community. A recent national landscape scan by Together Ending Need (TEN) found that the share of Jewish households struggling to make ends meet has grown from 19% in 2020 to 29% today. Financial vulnerability can affect any of us, and having a caring community to turn to can make all the difference.
This is when JFCS East Bay’s work—and the community that makes it possible—matters most.
We are listening to the people we serve, prioritizing critical services, strengthening community partnerships, and increasing our advocacy. We are expanding legal support for immigrants facing urgent situations, including detention and deportation; helping newcomers connect with employment opportunities; and bringing support services directly into homes and schools, where people live, learn, and build their futures.
Behind every person who reaches out to JFCS East Bay is a need for something more than a service: the reassurance that someone cares, the guidance to navigate an unfamiliar situation, or the support to take the next step forward. We meet people where they are, helping them find stability, connection, and hope when they need it most.
Why give now?
The effects of today’s challenges will not disappear overnight. Rebuilding stability takes time, and as public resources change, our community must step forward to help sustain essential care. As we approach JFCS East Bay’s 150th anniversary in 2027, we have an opportunity to carry forward a legacy of caring for our neighbors while ensuring we can continue meeting their needs today and for generations to come.
Your gift helps sustain critical services, address emerging needs, and ensure that individuals and families can find support when they need it most. Together, we can strengthen the network of care that helps our neighbors navigate difficult times and move forward with greater stability and hope.
