Getting Started
JFCS East Bay offers many ways for community members to get involved and give back. Across the agency, about 400 volunteers provide support to our many programs. We have opportunities to fit your individual availability; some volunteers work with us weekly and others participate periodically or once a year.
We consider our volunteers a vital part of the services we provide to our East Bay community. Whether you’re working with a newly arrived refugee from Afghanistan, visiting a Holocaust survivor in their home, or providing a holiday gift to a low-income child in Oakland, each volunteer brings immense consideration, love, and impact to their interactions with our clients.
JFCS East Bay’s current volunteer opportunities:
- Newcomer Refugees
- LGBT Refugees
- Holocaust Survivors
- Seniors
- Meal Delivery
- Holiday Giving Program
- Office & Events
Please review these opportunities and then let us know how you want to get involved by filling out the Volunteer Interest Form.
Our Volunteer Coordinator will evaluate your interests with current openings and opportunities in mind. As applicable, she will then ask you to fill out a volunteer application so we can better understand your interests and talents. Once your application is submitted, you will be asked to come in for a short screening interview and to agree to a standard background check. When that process is complete, you will receive any necessary training and orientation, and will be assigned a volunteer role. The Volunteer Coordinator provides detailed guidance at the beginning of every placement and is always available for feedback and questions.
