Meal Delivery

Share:

For more than twenty-five years, JFCS East Bay has been delivering fresh kosher meals to homebound seniors and people with disabilities on Rosh Hashanah, Chanukah, and Passover. For each holiday, about 200 meals leave from our offices in Berkeley and Walnut Creek to homes throughout Alameda and Contra Costa counties.

This effort is dependent upon the forty-five volunteers who contribute their time for each holiday delivery. On the delivery day, each volunteer is assigned a route (and provided with a map) composed of three to five homes. This is a great activity to do with the family: recipients love to see children coming to the door with their meal. Volunteers sometimes stay and chat with recipients for a few minutes.

In addition, JFCS East Bay delivers fresh kosher meals to a smaller group of homebound seniors every Friday in Alameda County and every third Friday in Contra Costa County. Delivery volunteers can sign up for a regular commitment or you can let us know how frequently you are available. For the Shabbat deliveries, we try to have the same volunteers deliver to the same recipients on a consistent basis so they can develop a relationship.
