Ms. G’s journey is one of profound loss, courage, and unwavering determination to protect her family.
A 34-year-old mother from Honduras, Ms. G once built a life rooted in hard work and hope. Together with her husband, she ran a small carwash business—creating stability for their family and a future for their daughter. But that stability was shattered when her husband became the target of extortion. Soon after, he was murdered—an act Ms. G believes was carried out by members of the Honduran National Police.
In an instant, everything changed.
Grieving and terrified that those responsible would come for her and her daughter next, Ms. G made the impossible decision to flee her home. She left behind her country, her community, and the life she had worked so hard to build, carrying only the hope of keeping her child safe.
Since 2021, Ms. G and her family have been in ongoing removal proceedings, facing an uncertain future. With the support of JFCS East Bay’s Immigration Legal Services team, she endured a long and complex legal battle—one that required immense strength and resilience.
Ultimately, justice prevailed.
A judge granted Ms. G asylum, recognizing that she was targeted for her opposition to political corruption. When the government declined to pursue an appeal, her asylum status became final—marking a life-changing victory after years of fear and uncertainty.
Today, Ms. G and her daughter are safe.
And the work continues. With her status secured, JFCS East Bay is now helping Ms. G seek protection for her remaining family members—so they, too, can live free from danger.
